This past week Mayor Barrett's heart went out to a woman who was crying in distress. His empathetic heart led to a broken body. Someone with a "not so pure" heart didn't appreciate the Mayor's attempt to intervene, and let him know it by repeatedly giving him the business end of a baton.

As much as we'd like to condemn that heartless criminal, we better be careful to recognize that our hearts aren't so pure either. They are FILLED with evil thoughts, lies, deceptions, hatred, and pride. We cannot clean our own hearts. We need them washed in the blood of Jesus.

His empathetic heart went out to us who were crying in the distress of our sin. His empathetic heart led to a broken body on the cross. His blood has cleansed our impure hearts. It's a cleansing we need week in and week out.

"Creat in me a clean (pure) heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me" (Psalm 51:10).

Pray for Mt. Calvary, that each of us would weekly come to church for a "heart-cleansing"! Bring others to church at Mt. Calvary, where they will receive cleansing for impure hearts! Tell others about the Savior whose heart led Him to shed His blood for all!
