If someone asked you to paint a picture in your mind of "chaos," what would it look like? Would it be your home far beyond the point of needing a good cleaning? Would it be a jumble of messed up relationships in your life? Would it be a melee or riot of some kind? Or, would it be the devastation left behind by a tornado or storm?
True chaos is what happens when God withdraws Himself from a situation. It's when sin, death, or the devil take over. When that happens, there is no longer structure or organization, but chaos. We've seen the destructive power of chaos in our own lives, haven't we?
Jesus saw it that night when the disciples were in the midst of a storm. They were terrified in the midst of that chaos. So Jesus came out to them...walking ON the WATER! The disciples thought the chaos contained a ghost. But Jesus said to them, "It is I. Don't be afraid." He climbed into the boat. Chaos calmed down. Order was restored.
When chaos seems to be ruling your life, welcome the Redeemer of the world and the God of creation into the midst of that chaos. He promises to restore order. "It is I," He says. "Don't be afraid."
Pray for Mt. Calvary, that each of us would daily seek the God who restores order in our lives! Bring others to church at Mt. Calvary, where they will find calm in the midst of personal storms! Tell others about a Redeemer who is also the God of creation!
