The title of this coming Sunday's sermon is: "Do We Need Shepherds in the City?" Well...do we?
Sunday is the Fourth Sunday of Easter, which is affectionately known as "Good Shepherd Sunday." We get to hear and sing the 23rd Psalm. We get to hear Jesus call Himself the "Good Shepherd." We get to view that beautiful imagery in our minds.
But what does it really mean? The English word "good" doesn't really do an adequate job of relaying what Jesus is trying to get across in calling Himself the "Good Shepherd." The word really means "beautiful." Jesus is the "Beautiful Shepherd"...not because of His looks, but because of what He did, and continues to do, for us and for our salvation!
Beautiful, indeed! Once people realize what the Shepherd has to give, they want to become, and remain, part of His flock, to enjoy all the love, wisdom, guidance, protection, forgiveness, and peace that He has to offer.
So, "Do We Need Shepherds in the City?" Come to church this Sunday and find out!
Pray for Mt. Calvary, that all members would be active as part of the flock of the Good Shepherd! Bring others to worship at Mt. Calvary, where they will certainly want to receive the protectioni and peace of the Good Shepherd! Tell others about the Good Shepherd who wants them to be part of the "one flock" and "one Shepherd"! |
