Wednesday, July 09, 2008 Good Soil By Pastor Eggebrecht @ 2:13 PM :: 143 Views :: Pastors Message   "As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields..." So says Jesus in the Gospel Lesson for this coming Sunday. Throughout the Bible, a person's attitude towards the Word of God is a distinguishing mark of a person of faith. A person's approach to the things of God -- hearing His Word preached by attending public worship and using the Sacraments -- shows what truly lies beneath a person's heart, whether it be love for God or contempt for Him. The Lord has chosen to give us life through His Word: first a spoken covenant to Abraham written in his flesh; second a written covenant by God Himself in stone to the children of Israel; finally a living covenant written by God Himself through the blood of His only-begotten Son, Jesus. All of this, so that He could give life to all who would avail themselves of this precious Word. Pray that Mt. Calvary would be a place where the seed of the Word falls on "good soil"! Bring others to Sunday morning worship at Mt. Calvary so that they know the true life that is given as a gift through God's Word! Tell others about a God who gives the gift of His Word...His Word of life!
