Bearing a Cross?
By Pastor Eggebrecht @ 12:47 PM :: 260 Views :: Pastors Message

In this coming Sunday's Gospel Lesson, Jesus says to His disciples: "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."

In this context, a cross is any burden or trial laid upon us BECAUSE we are followers of Jesus. It's not something that is the result of being human, like being sick.

So...what is the "cross" that you are carrying? Do you have to think hard to come up with anything? If so, maybe the LACK of crosses in your life shows a deprived faith life and walk with Jesus. The presence of crosses in the life of a Christian is actually a good thing!

And it's a GOOD THING that our Savior bore THE cross for us. That loving, Lenten fact is why we ourselves bear crosses in life, shows that there is help for us WHEN we bear our crosses, and forgives us for the times that we resist bearing the crosses of a Christian.

Just a thought: Is coming to church on Sunday a "cross" that you must bear? If so, it's a joyful, life-giving, faith-building, forgiveness-delivering cross.

Pray for our church, that each and every member would bear crosses in their lives with joy! Bring others to worship at Mt. Calvary, where they will receive relief from the burdens of life! Tell others about Jesus, who personally bears His cross for the sins of the world!
