Extraordinarily Ordinary
By Pastor Eggebrecht @ 9:57 AM :: 181 Views :: Pastors Message

What is the most mundane, dry, ordinary thing that you do on a regular basis (and DON'T say going to church!)? Whatever you are picturing in your mind, consider what it would take to make it new, exciting, and extraordinary.

Author Seth Godin, in his brand new book Linchpin, tells the story of David. David has been working for six years (!) in a Manhattan coffee shop. Seth walked in one day, and the first thing he noticed was David walking over to a line of tourists and cheerfully saying, "Hey, guys! We have another bathroom upstairs. No need to wait." With a smile, he moved away, energetically cleaning off tables and straightening things that didn't seem particularly crooked. If this was menial labor, no one told David.

As the hour wore on, Seth saw David greet people, help without asking, offer to watch a table or get something for someone. In a coffee shop! Seth asked him about his attitude. He smiled, stopped for a second, and told him, "I work for blessings."

If you want to find out how this applies to your life, come to church on Sunday. An extraordinary thing happens in the ordinary, daily life of Peter...and Peter ends up "working for blessings." When Jesus steps into ordinary life, the extraordinary becomes the commonplace. Come and see!

PRAY that each Mt. Calvary member would receive the blessings of Jesus in the midst of ordinary life. BRING others to worship on Sunday so that they will receive the extraordinary blessings of a loving Savior. TELL others that Jesus is the source of everything extraordinary.
