Getting Out of the Boat
By Pastor Eggebrecht @ 2:00 PM :: 268 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Pastors Message

A few years ago, a book came out that was entitled, "If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat." The premise of the book was to encourage believers to step out of their comfort zone into the "risky waters of faith," where they would meet Jesus who would change hearts and lives.

Unfortunately, the book didn't get it completely right. As sinners we cannot even take one small step toward Jesus. We are His natural enemies. We need Him to take a step toward us, call us with His Word, and open our ears of faith.

And that's what Jesus does each and every Sunday as He humbly steps toward us, speaks His Word, opens our ears, and forgives our sins. Forgiveness is the first "step." Faith only follows.

And follow we do, when we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, and our ears open to His Words of forgiveness, love, and life. That following often, then, leads us out of the boat, into the roaring waters of the sea or the torrential currents of life. That following sometimes takes us out of our comfort zone, and most certainly makes us pray-ers, bring-ers, and tell-ers.

Pray that all the members of Mt. Calvary would grow in faith! Bring others to Sunday morning worship at Mt. Calvary so that they will hear the voice of Jesus calling them to "come"! Tell others about Jesus, who takes the first step, calls with His Word, and opens our ears of faith!
