Don't Be Anxious

Don't be anxious? Don't be anxious?! Don't be anxious???!!! It has been very difficult these past few weeks NOT to be anxious. Our whole country is on edge. In light of the severe downturn of the stock market and credit markets, people are feeling the effects of anxiety. For some people that anxiety is severe.
Into the midst of all of this anxiety comes the Word of God with the only true comfort humans can have in the face of any kind of anxiety. One translation of this coming Sunday's epistle lesson puts it like this: "Don't worry about anything. Rather, in every area of life let God know what you want, as you pray and make requests, and give thanks as well. And God's peace, which is greater than we can ever understand, will keep guard over your hearts and minds in King Jesus."
Although there may be anxiety around every corner, the Lord encourages you to communicate with Him through prayer, and He will "keep guard" over your heart and mind. If it matters to you, it matters to God. YOU matter to God. You matter so much that He sacrificed His Son so that you now possess eternal life.
Pray for our church, that we would be a place of refuge for those who are anxious. Bring others to worship on Sunday morning, so that our fellowship will be a blessing to many. Tell others about Jesus, the One who comforst our anxiety and calls us to come to Him. |
