Grace for Everyone

Sometimes we regular church-goers think that we're the special ones in the eyes of God. All it takes is a little parable from Jesus, like the one we'll hear on Sunday, to remind us that we don't have the exclusive rights to God. Not only do we put God "in a box," we also put His church "in a box." What I mean is that we have in our minds our idea of what the people in God's church should look like, act like, and be like. And we usually think that the people in God's church should look, act, and be like us. That's a sinful and selfish attitude. One wise commentator put it like this: "In reality, God is out in the marketplace, looking for the people everybody else tried to ignore, welcoming them on the same terms, surprising them (and everybody else) with His generous grace." We -- poor, miserable sinners that we are -- have been surprised by God's grace. We have been renewed and made new. Our ugly insides have been made beautiful in the eyes of God through the blood that Jesus poured out on the cross. God is a generous God. He rewards us with the gifts of His forgiveness, His kingdom, and His heaven, only out of His fully free generosity. We don't deserve it any more than anyone else. God has saved us by His grace...and He has saved others by His grace. That's why the mosaic of His church is such a beautiful thing. Aren't we privileged to be able to see and experience that every Sunday morning at Mt. Calvary?! Pray that Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and School would welcome any and all to the services of God's house. Bring others to worship on Sunday morning, where the message of God's grace will be heard "loud and clear." Tell others about Jesus, the Son of God who delivers God's grace to anyone and everyone. |
